  • 소개/요약In previous studies in Yuan history, the culture of the Yuan dynasty was considered negatively by the prejudice and preconception of researches. In recent studies in Yuan history, however, the cultural and thought exchange of East Asia including Korea and Japan centering around Yuan is being watched. This article analyzed about new acceptance of the Buddhist culture of the Yuan dynasty at the end of Goryeo and its ideological influence, taking notice of the phenomenon of the thought culture exchange of East Asia. Also, the article, which got out of the man-centered analysis, employed the methodology of research that investigates the trend of Zen thought through the acceptance and spread of Zen Text. As the most noticeable Zen Text related to the Buddhist history since the end of Goryeo, "Mongsan Beobeo(蒙山法語)" and "Seonyo(禪要)" can be mentioned. These Zen Texts were published with intent to spread KouanZen publicly at the end of South Sung and the beginning of Yuan and can be considered as manuals for practicing Kouan Zen. By the way, since the Yuan empire guaranteed the freedom of religion and promoted free comings and goings as well as trade, cultural exchanges having no parallel in history were done actively. In relation to this kind of time background, the then Zen monks and illustrious officials of Goryeo entered Yuan in large numbers and was accepting new thought culture interchanging with intellectuals and Zen monks of the day. In particular, the Zen Buddhism culture of the Yuan dynasty was accepted widely by the then Zen monks as well as a class of illustrious officials of Goryeo, and this kind of influence is shown well in the analects of Naong(懶翁), Bowoo(普愚), etc. Furthermore, ideological influences of these Zen Text are being continued till since the Joseon dynasty era. However, the Zen Buddhism world at the end of Goryeo moved gradually in the direction of the tendency of absolutizing Zen Buddhism through standardization of Kouan Zen, acceptance of the theory that only mind is paradise, etc. This aspect represents the direction that Zen Buddhism was stiffened ideologically taking the leadership of the Buddhist world, and in the end, since Zen Buddhism could not be able to cope with the criticism of Buddhism effectively, which was caused by acceptance of Neo-confucianism at that time, Buddhism was ruined ideologically.
