  • 소개/요약Journaling is a method of self-understanding in which writers process their own experiences and often discover something totally unexpected but meaningful to them. In this study, what the journaling process is and how it brings self-understanding are examined. First, participants did journaling with some item that they could not throw away and/or objects that were rarely used for some unclear reasons. Few days later, participants were interviewed about the journaling process. The data gathered in these interviews were examined from the viewpoint of TAE (Thinking At the Edge) Pattern Work (Tokumaru, 2008). The method of journaling, its patterns and effects were analyzed. The result suggested that the method of journaling shows characteristics of experiencing, more so than characteristics of role-lettering and empty chair methods. Journaling also brought patterns that were useful in bringing about changes in the participants life. These patterns could be applied not only to the participants but to the population at large. Moreover, journaling was demonstrated to be a method with very limited adverse reactions.
