  • 소개/요약It will soon be two years since the “Comprehensive Support System for Children and Child -rearing” took effect in April, 2015. The previous study of this pointed out that those stay-athome mothers, whose narratives were taken, wished to receive actual financial support from the government as part of the system and to instill changes to gender role ideals regarding housework with their partners. This study shows that they feel there has not been any improvements nationally or domestically. Furthermore, the government of Japan hopes to increase the number of working women even more than before, in order to compensate for thelabor shortage caused by the declining birth rate and the booming elderly population. However, stereotypes related to gender roles have not yet changed. The purpose of this study is to show the possibilities of mindfulness for reducing stay-athome mothers’ anxieties about their child-rearing and housework. This mindfulness research was composed of PRE-POST FFMQ (Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire) surveys, six sessions of a “basic mindfulness class” over the course of half a year and reflection after each session, and a group interview was conducted after six months to inquire how mindfulnesscould be effective for each participant. The results of providing the basic mindfulness course for the mothers were very positive.During the sessions, they were made more aware of themselves and of connections with others through breathing, eating, and walking meditations. They realized that they had been transformed positively through raising their children as well as in being aware of themselves through mindfulness practices. They even wished to recommend mindfulness to their partners so that it will be a good influence on their children at home. Since these findings were very limited, it was difficult to conclude how mindfulness could be effective for all types of mothers. Therefore, further study on providing mindfulnesscourses with a wider range of subjects, areas, and practices should be considered and undertaken.
