  • 소개/요약This study evaluates psychological effects of image-induced meditation on elementary children, a largely unexplored or unreported area. This study examined 22 third-grade public school children, for whom ethical considerations precluded physiological testing and control group comparison. We trained them to practice breath control and body-scan meditation for five minutes thrice a week over the course of one month. Their psychological results showed significant increases in concentration, frankness, and independence, but a corresponding decrease in cooperative study. The effects of meditation have been experientially verified for millennia, but only recently scientifically researched; even fewer studies evaluate biochemical effects in Japan. Our study suggests that meditation increases physical as well as mental health, decreases stress, and may significantly affect chidren's character formation. We have not yet been avle to measure the effects of meditation on biochemistry, but we hope to do so in the foreseeable future.
