- 소개/요약Since the turn of the millennium, there has been an explosion of research in psychology, neurobiology, education, and business demonstrating a wide range of benefits of something called “mindfulness.” Mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress, depression, and anxiety; to increase impulse control, attention spans, and worker productivity; to improve interpersonal and workplace relationships; and to reduce reactive, conflictual, and violent behavior. While scientific research on mindfulness in the West dates back to 1979, when Jon Kabat-Zinn founded the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts, it has gained significant traction and widespread uptake only more recently, as evidenced by the founding of the University of California Los Angeles’ (UCLA) Mindful Awareness Research Center (2004), Oxford’s Mindfulness Centre (2008), and Springer’s inauguration of a journal devoted to Mindfulness (2010). Mindfulness research is now so mainstream that it is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and involves collaborations with the Departments of Defense and Veteran’s Affairs.
