- 소개/요약Coronary events like heart stroke have a high prevalence within the population and pose a major financial burden. It is well established, that rehabilitation is beneficial for patients who recently suffered from a coronary event. The present research aims to explore whether the addition of Transcendental Meditation (TM) or yoga may result in improved outcomes for psychosocial stress and other health related measures. For this purpose, a pilot study in cooperation with the rehabilitation facility in St. Radegund (Austria) compares the usual rehabilitation program of this institution, with two intervention groups. These intervention groups practiced TM or yoga, additionally over a period of 4 weeks. 30 participants were randomly assigned to one of the three groups. On basis of EEG power, EEG coherence, hair cortisol levels and several questionnaires, the present paper will compare whether the addition of these practices resulted in improved health related outcomes. Results suggest that the rehabilitation period did indeed improve EEG coherence, lowered cortisol levels and improved ratings on the questionnaires. Though none of the groups did improve or deteriorate significantly differently to the others. The data for EEG power was inconclusive. This suggests either, that the addition of TM and yoga does not have added beneficial effects, or that the rehabilitation program was generally effective and additional improvements of the intervention groups were too small to be observed.
