  • 소개/요약Neurotic misery and everyday unhappiness may be better understood and treated when contributions from psychoanalytic and mystical traditions are jointly taken into account and judiciously integrated. After considering the primary elements common to most mystical traditions, two very complementary mystical paradigms, Zen Buddhism and Jewish mysticism, are more specifically explored. Psychoanalysis, Zen Buddhist, and Jewish mystical approaches to mental suffering are contrasted and compared with respect to theory and praxis. Overlapping psychoanalytic and mystical ideas in the work of prominent psychoanalytic thinkers are identified and discussed. The experiences of students of Zen Buddhism and Jewish mysticism are reviewed and considered alongside accounts of patients in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. These accounts suggest that a continuing dialogue between psychodynamic and mystical perspectives on neurotic and existential suffering is warranted, and that both traditions may effectively collaborate in promoting psycho-spiritual growth and insight._x000D_
