- 소개/요약While research in the field of mindfulness has grown in recent years, the research literature predominantly focuses on white, middle-class adults. Children, adolescents, low-SES, and minority populations have been largely left out of the dialogue and the research. This exploratory mixed-methods study looked at the process and selected outcomes of a mindfulness program with adolescents in a low-SES, urban afterschool program. Quantitative data were collected using five measures and two groups of students (N=12), while qualitative data were collected on only a subset of participants (N=7). Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed independently and findings were integrated in a mixed methods analysis. Qualitative data indicated that study participants both enjoyed and benefited from the mindfulness program, particularly in terms of emotion regulation. Thematic analyses yielded four themes: difficulties in expression and comprehension, emotion dysregulation, different conceptions of stress, and relationships as sources of both stress and stress-relief._x000D_ Quantitative findings showed no evidence of differential group change over time on any of the measures. Together, these two strands of data suggest that, despite limitations in both the intervention and measurement in the current study, participants experienced improvement in emotion and behavior regulation. A final chapter discusses the findings and offers suggestions for future interventions and research. Study findings contribute new information about the experience of a mindfulness program in a low-SES, urban, adolescent population and offer insight into improving these interventions in the future._x000D_
