- 소개/요약Even though several studies have demonstrated the positive effect of mindfulness meditation on measures of mental and physical well-being, very few studies have been done with children with ADHD. The present study investigated the efficacy of mindfulness training (MT) in increasing the attention span of children with ADHD above and beyond the effects of medication treatment. Twenty-nine children ages 7--12 years who met ADHD criteria participated in this randomized clinical trial with a treatment and control group. Attention was measured with the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA), Behavioral Assessment System of Children (BASC), and Conners' Parent Rating Scale (CPRS-L PRS). The treatment group participated in MMT for 4 weeks, meeting twice weekly for 45 minutes per session. Results indicated that MMT was effective in increasing the attention span of children with ADHD as measured by TOVA continuous performance tests of attention and parent-reported scales BASC-2 and CPRS. For CPRS, a 4.4% decrease in mean inattention scores for the meditation group was significantly greater than a 1.0% control group decrease (p = .040). For BASC-2, an 8.3% decrease in mean attention problem scores for the meditation group was significantly greater than a 1.7% control group decrease ( p = .002). There were significant reductions in reaction time and commission errors as measured by TOVA for the mindfulness meditation training group as compared to the control group (p < .001). Mindfulness meditation training and control group changes in reaction time variability and omission errors were not significantly different._x000D_ Findings from this study contribute to the ongoing research on mindfulness meditation training as a possible clinical intervention for children diagnosed with ADHD. The results of this study suggest that MMT appears to be a promising approach for children with ADHD in increasing attention span. However, it would be important to replicate this study in a larger sample. The continued use of multimethod assessment tools would give a broader understanding to the effectiveness of MMT._x000D_
