  • 소개/요약Background Amyloid‐mediated pathology that is centered on Aβ42 is central to the oxidative stress and inflammatory cascade of events occurring in Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain. Among the several oxidative‐ stress pathways that occur in the brain, formation advanced glycation end products or AGEs accumulating near the vicinity of senile plaques could be one of the “age‐related” factors contributing toward AD‐pathology. AGEs generate free radicals during their formation and they invoke immune and inflammatory responses both in the periphery and in brain tissues. We now have significant data to indicate that in AD, plasma titers of antibodies to these two proteins exist in concentrations several fold greater than in samples derived from healthy age‐matched seniors. However, the desire to eat sugar is more prominent in those who lived in depression and lack body‐mind training activities such as yoga, meditation or music; suggesting that the thoughts of the mind dictate food habits leading to unhealthy living styles. Methods We have assessed the memory and cognitive abilities such as Mini‐mental scores (MMSE evaluation) in 20 volunteers between ages 60‐80 who were regularly doing meditation for 30 minutes in the morning and evenings, eating sugar free healthy diet and listening to healing music for 1‐2 hours daily and compared with similar age groups of 20 volunteers who were not meditating or listening to any music and were habituated to eat unhealthy sugar‐loaded diet. Results We have observed that 16 subjects involved in meditation‐music and healthy diet exhibited sharp memory and cognitive skills with happy and cheerful behavioral patterns compared to those who were not involved in these holistic approaches. In fact four subjects with ages 80‐90 years old revealed an astounding memory power where they were able to sing >20 songs remembering lyrics of each song without the aid of any book or computer. Conclusions Yoga‐ Meditation and Music seems to be more ideal, safe and effective Psycho‐Neuro‐Immuno‐ therapeutic methods not only to cure several cognitive related disorders such as AHDH, depression, Alzheimer's, etc; but also in bringing inner joy, peace, love and harmony within self, family, society and the world.
