- 소개/요약Compensatory alternative schools provide innovative services in supportive educational settings for students at risk of dropping out of school and help them modify beliefs and behaviors contributing to personal challenges. This study employed a qualitative research design to explore attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions about a mindfulness meditation program in an alternative high school. Participants were thirty-five alternative high school students (nineteen boys and sixteen girls). The program included eight weeks of instruction and practice in meditation. Analysis of data from student journal entries and information forms yielded two overarching themes: the benefits of meditation and the challenges of meditation. This article describes the wide-ranging benefits, and the concomitant challenges, of a school-based meditation program for alternative high school students.
