- 소개/요약Dispositional mindfulness is conceptualized as an intrapersonal characteristic, specifically the tendency to attend to the present moment and accept experiences without judgment. However, dispositional mindfulness and related traits may also be associated with interpersonal processes, associations that could contribute to beneficial effects on emotional adjustment, health, and well-being. The interpersonal circumplex (IPC) provides a conceptual and measurement framework to identify associations of individual difference characteristics with interpersonal processes, specifically with the two broad interpersonal dimensions of affiliation (i.e., warmth vs. hostility or quarrelsomeness) and control (i.e., dominance vs. deference or submissiveness). In this study of undergraduates, we examined the interpersonal style and goals associated with multi-faceted measures of dispositional mindfulness, a measure of an orientation toward aversive experience that is the opposite of the acceptance component of mindfulness (i.e., experiential avoidance), and the related trait of nonattachment (i.e., freedom from unhealthy cognitive fixations on objects and others). In two samples (total N = 614), measures of dispositional mindfulness and related traits were consistently associated with warm and dominant interpersonal style and goals. Thus, individuals high in dispositional mindfulness appear to be generally outgoing and warm, a pattern that could contribute to emotional adjustment, health and well-being.
