  • 소개/요약There is expanding societal interest in mindfulness meditation. The precise reasons for this are not completely clear. We could hypothesize that it is an innate human need to have a practice to support connection and compassion around which we orient our daily life, and that in the movement away for some from organized religion there is a search to meet these needs in a new way. We could hypothesize that mindfulness offers a response to a time when people are looking for meaning and well-being in the midst of rapid change and challenge; perhaps a strong driving force may be the need to develop focus and cultivate peace in an increasingly frantic and competitive society; perhaps significant numbers of people seek mindfulness because it meets a particular need in their lives—to reconnect to themselves, and to connect with “bigger-than-self” concerns (Common Cause Foundation 2016).
