  • 소개/요약Compassion is an essential component of medical practice. It is expected by patients (Emanuel and Dubler 1995; Fogarty et al. 1999; Meagher 2006; Old et al. 2011; Wiggins et al. 2009; Youngson 2011, 2012), regulatory bodies (American Medical Association; New Zealand Medical Association) and doctors themselves (Lown et al. 2011). More than being an expectation, however, compassionate care matters. Compassion predicts greater patient satisfaction, better patient-physician relationships, and better patient health outcomes (Canale et al. 2012; Fogarty et al. 1999; Lelorain et al. 2012; Steinhausen et al. 2014).
